Architectural Lighting Solutions Add Pop to New Café

Illuminart, a division of Peter Basso Associates, provided lighting design for the Press Room Café and Market, located inside the former Detroit News building on West Lafayette Boulevard in Detroit, MI.

The new 8,000-square-foot Café and Market offers a unique Detroit experience for those looking for a quick yet relaxing dining in or grab and go lunch solution, provided by world renowned Chef Fabio Viviani.

The successful lighting solutions for the new Café were budget driven with the goal of simple maintenance and an uncluttered aesthetic.

Three separate areas within the Press Room (bistro and prepared foods, lounge, coffee shop) use uncomplicated lighting including track, recessed downlights and some decoratives. Lamping in the Press Room includes all LED and therefore requires minimal maintenance for the owner and staff. Tracklighting adds pop to the local food and product retail section. Calm, recessed adjustables warm portions of the lounge, which includes a fireplace and lounge furniture to create a relaxing, residential feel. Wallwashers crisply light the white subway tile around the Café, while decoratives provide warmth and enhanced visibility from the street and sidewalks, an aesthetic feature that will turn the Press Room into a welcoming beacon for downtown workers in Michigan's harsh winter months.
