Peter Basso Associates provided lighting design, mechanical and electrical engineering services for a theater addition at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. The 15,000 square foot Berman Center for the Performing Arts seats 350 patrons, but can be expanded to seat 600 through opening of two multipurpose rooms at the rear of the theater and extended telescopic seating that opens out from the back walls. To provide heating for the theater addition, the mechanical systems were revised to provide two 2,400 MBH high efficiency boilers. The primary hot water piping headers serving the high efficiency boilers were sized to accommodate an additional future high efficiency boiler. Cooling for the theater addition was accomplished by connecting to the existing North cooling loop. Some existing system modifications were made to allow the full capacity of the existing chillers to be utilized for the existing loads and the cooling requirements of the theater addition.
