Peter Basso Associates completed the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering for a major addition to Oakwood Southshore Hospital & Medical Center in Trenton Michigan. The project included a major addition of five stories plus a basement, totaling 191,000 square feet of addition and renovation.
The addition included 114 patient rooms, 5 operating rooms, an emergency center, as well as a cafeteria, auditorium and support spaces.
The project delivery method was design-build on an accelerated schedule; occupancy occurred less than 2 years after the start of schematic design.
The project construction cost was lower than the owner’s budget.
Project coordination was enhanced by the use of 3 dimensional CAD during all phases of design, in order to avoid space conflicts wherever possible.
PBA engineered modifications to the boiler plant and power plant in order to support the addition. HVAC for the addition was provided from a factory fabricated mechanical penthouse, which helped to reduce construction time and costs.
