In accordance with the Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) Dining Master Plan established by MSU and in an effort to integrate neighborhood dining across campus, MSU embarked on creating a central dining experience for students and faculty. Given its central location on campus, Shaw Hall was an obvious candidate for dining improvements.
PBA is providing MEP engineering services for the project, which will include: a new state-of-the-art dining hall for Shaw Hall; LEED certification; variable air volume kitchen hood controls for energy efficiency; a new elevator to connect to the terrace level; a new loading dock; improvements to the lobby and lounges on the first floor and replacing the deteriorated water main piping south of the building.
Shaw Hall is MSU’s pilot project for Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). MSU, the construction manager, major trade contractors, the architect and PBA are joined contractually and are working together at risk to deliver the project within specific cost and performance goals. The principles of Lean Construction are being employed to manage the work flow, reduce costs, optimize the outcome, and improve collaboration and teamwork.
